Halfmann Red Angus is a family owned and operated ranch located in the western part of Texas. Summers in Miles, Texas are very hot with low humidity and an average rainfall of 18-20 inches annually. The native pastures have side-oats, KR Bluestem, and short mesquite grass. Our improved pastures include Jiggs and Tifton 85 grass. In addition to these pastures, grazing also consists of winter wheat and summer sorghum sudans.

Calving ease, easy fleshing ability, excellent maternal traits, and moderate size females are all a must in our hot and dry climate. Our cattle do well wherever you take them; they are very adaptable going North or South. After many years of drought, only the best cattle have earned a place in our herd.
In 1974, Glen and Diane started their herd with Pure Chief-line Cows from the Mid-American Cattle Company. 373, L303, and H904 were sires to most of these cows. L218, the first calving ease sire from the Chief-line genetics, was then purchased from Cornie Folkient. L218 sired the great N601! Another Chief-line bull used in the Halfmann program was 8207, who is related maternally to Cherokee Canyon 4912.

The family farm started with Hereford and stocker cattle. Clifford and Dennis Halfmann bought the first Red Angus cows in 1966, and started the Tanglewood-Line from a red Bardolimere bull. In 1968, Glen Halfmann raised the Red Angus steer who was Reserve Champion Carcass of all breeds at the San Antonio Exposition and Fair. Having accomplished this, Glen began intensely breeding Red Angus cattle.
